So this past weekend, the wife and I, went to check out the Steve McQueen Exhibit at AIC. My Wife, not considering herself much of an Artist type, enjoyed it. Steve is a video artist and film maker from London. There was lots to experience in the show, from light box images, huge screens of looping videos, and projector images, as well as a few videos in isolated rooms that span anywhere from 14min to 24min long. So be prepared if you go check it out. My favorites where: "Girls, Tricky," "Charlotte," "Western Deep," and "Static"
"Girls, Tricky" is a video of an trip hop artist doing his rap in the studio, with a very real and gritty look including sound. Charlotte was a video close up an eye tinted in red, and Western Deep was a 24 minute long look at workers in the deepest gold mine in the world! He really takes you there with the images and the sound....you feel like your one of the workers, and you can see first hand how the conditions of their work environment is.
He is my favorite musician!
ReplyDeleteI thought the gallery set up was very well done - especially with the giant triangle and the side rooms for "private viewing". I was drawn repeatedly to "Charlotte" - and the triptic of the black and white films.
ReplyDeletehaven't been yet, but your report intrigues me. :)
ReplyDeletedid you bounce any ideas or thoughts for a project off your wife for the teen saturday program? as a non'art' person she might bring some good perspective.
